Capricorn “Cap” Daniels did his third set of pushups for the night. Being locked up there wasn’t shit else to do but work out, eat, and play cards. The 6 by 8 feet cage he called home wasn’t even big enough for one person to live in comfortably—let alone two.
Cap should’ve been living la vida loca with the woman of his dreams, but instead he was forced to take the rap for a murder he hadn’t even committed. On top of that, Feds were also trying to pin him with multiple Backpage robberies—some of which he hadn’t even executed.
In total, Cap was looking at over thirty years. He’d be 58 years old by the time he saw freedom again.
Life’s a bitch, Cap thought, standing to his feet. Sweat glistened on his rock hard abs and buff chest. Like many of his prison brethren, Cap had gotten twice as chiseled since his incarceration.
At 6”2, Cap weighed a solid 210 lbs. and was built similar to a professional football player. He had shoulder length dreadlocks, and from his neck to his waist his body donned beautiful artwork that told the story of his twenty-eight years of life. Among them, his favorite was the tattoo of Lady’s name written in cursive on the side of his neck.
Lady…
There wasn’t a single day that went by that he didn’t think about her. She was the face he wanted to wake up to every morning; the center of his universe. As a matter of fact, he had fallen out with best friend because of her.
In the beginning, he and Royalty had come to an agreement that they would share both women equally. But when jealousy somehow got involved all hell broke loose. A faithful unity had quickly become a house divided. Lady took to Cap and Sweater to Royalty. Secrets were kept, and friendships broken.
If Cap could go back he would do shit completely different. Plopping down onto the bottom bunk, he looked over at the stack of papers placed neatly in the corner. Every day he wrote letters addressed to Lady, but never sent them off. There were so many things he wanted to tell her---starting with the truth about her pregnancy. But Cap could never bring himself to actually mail them to her.
What would she think of a nigga, he asked himself.
Cap figured he’d rather not communicate at all then have Lady hating him for the remainder of his imprisonment.
Love had a way of making people do foolish things.
